There were women who had followed him
With compassion they wept for him
Daughters of Jerusalem, Jesus did comfort them.
Do not weep for me but for yourselves.
Weep for your children. (Lk 23:28)
As Christ passes by do we cry for him?
So close by our side do we see him?
As Christ passes by do I think of my sin
That did this to him?
Where am I as Christ passes by?
As they cared for you so you cared for them
By stopping to speak to them
Teaching us to look deeper in
Into your passion to
See the real reason and come to repent
While there’s still time.
As Christ passes by, will I deny him?
He’s passing by, he’s passing by
With pleading eyes to look at him and listen,
Accept him and follow him…
This is the hour,
The reason he came. (Jn 12:27)
How he longed to drink this cup for you. (Lk 22:15)
Embracing the cross
And all of its shame, (Gal 3:13)
An example to us as we should do. He says…
Follow me,
Take up your cross and follow. (Lk 9:23)
Come and see
The road to life is steep and narrow. (Mt 7:14)
Die to live, behold the mystery
And follow me. (Jn 12:24)
Come all you weary,
Lay down the fight (Mt 11:28)
In the end there’d be nothing to show for it.
His yolk is easy,
his burden is light. (Mt 11:30)
He is there to help you shoulder it. He says…
Run to the servant, (Is 52:13)
To the one who was made
perfect through suffering (Heb 2:10)
And we can be too if we follow you. (Mt 19:21)
We’ve gone astray
Like sheep each one going his own way (Is 53:6)
The Lord has laid the guilt of us all on you. "
We hide our faces
Not to see the stripes upon your back. (Is 53:3)
Though harshly treated,
You opened not your mouth. (Is 53:7)
You wear a crown
Woven from thorns and made a fool. (Jn 19:2-3)
Without a sound, our punishment you bear. (Is 53:5)
He was found guilty and so we think of him as stricken,
afflicted by God. (Is 53:4)
You are what Pilate says(The King of the Jews) (Jn 19:19)
Behold the Man, this Jesus, beaten and condemned to die.
Behold the Man, whose death frees us.
Jesus the Man, The Lamb of God.
Are you a king, the king of the Jews?,
He was asked. (Jn 18:33)
Come to bring, healing to the world.
Your suffering and dying and rising again
Gives us new life. (Thank you Jesus)
My Lord and my God.
Because of Him, kings shall stand speechless.
He’ll startle the nations, so marred is his look
Beyond that of Man (Is 53: 14-15)
Away with Him! Away with him!
Crucify him! Crucify him! (Jn 19:15)
Fallen, he has fallen,
Not from the weight of the cross
But from the weight of my sin.
Broken my heart is broken,
Yearning to love him enough
To never hurt him again.
Knowing all the grace his death
Would bring to me
He got up off his knees, ‘cause
He thought of me, Jesus thought of me
That moment when he took his cross again.
He thought of me all the way to calvary
Fallen to the ground wouldn’t keep him down.
He got back on his feet, when he thought of me.
Weakened and badly shaken
Fallen on the jagged stones
Making worse all the pain.
Forgive me, please forgive me
For all the times I let you down
And denying your name.
Knowing all the grace his death
Would bring to me.
He got up off his knees…
He thought of me and only me, always me
From the foundation of the world
He knew me, he loved me, he loves me still
He thought of me
He got back on his feet…
She was there to dry your eyes the first time that you cried.
She was there again to hold you in her arms.
She was support for your first step and to lift you when you fell.
She’s the heart that grew to love you so well.
And there she is to see you once again.
No words are even spoken, her eyes reveal the pain.
Your most holy mother with a sword of sorrow in her heart,
When you walked by one last time. She was there.
She was there in the crowd all the people pushing round
And you’re sad that she should have to see you like this.
You try to walk in her direction to seal another glance,
One last time, one last, word, one last chance.
Mary, teach me to live my life as you lived yours
In the will of the Father (Teach me O..)
Jesus, give me the grace to love your mother
As you loved her. (You loved her, you loved her, you loved her)
She was there though a Queen she loved you tenderly
And she knows that she lives only by your power.
She was there in the morning and the evening of your lifetime
Waiting with patience, watching in silence, wholly united with you.
She was there (do dry your eyes when you were crying)
She was there (and you loved her how you loved her)
She was there (in the morning and the evening of your life)
She was always there (and you loved her how you loved her)
She was there.
On your way to Calvary,
Seeing you in so much pain
Through sweat and blood you could not see
The holy woman made her way.
With nothing she could do for you,
But only doing what she could
Taking a veil from her own head
To do what no other would.
Veronica stepped out to wipe your brow
The blood and tears running down your face.
And she thought...
You are beautiful, you are my Lord.
You are beautiful, your face to be adored.
The soldiers mad at this display of kindness
To the one condemned
But she only saw the face
Of someone in need of a friend.
Veronica stepped out to wipe your brow
The blood and tears running down your face.
And she thought...
Jesus, through his power and grace
Left us a picture of his face and we see…
On that long dusty road to your death on a tree
Tired and weary and weakened and struggling
You fall a second time.
By this fall give me hope along my own way
That you’re never too tired of me falling away
You help me get up one more time.
And still I fall again and still I follow my own will
And when I fall you’re always there to raise me up again.
Before I fall again, help me to call on you for strength.
‘Cause by your fall you won the grace to raise me up again.
Many times I have tried to start over again.
I get up I move on and I pray for strength
To keep on with the fight.
I forget you are there to help me to stand.
If I reach out you are there to give me a hand
To help me give it one more try…
When I fall and fall again
Just like you, renewing all the pain
And you show me you’ve been there and made a way
Forgiving me as many times as I need…
Written on the cross is the reason for death (Jn 19:19)
All who pass by are filled with contempt
If you are a king come down from the cross (Mt 27:42)
One of the thieves cries “Don’t you fear God?” (Lk 23:40)
You forgive them, they know not what they do. (Lk, 23:34)
You still love them, they just do not yet know you
May my heart crumble with grief for my sins
And my life be lived in devotion to him.
Your love, your life opening up the skies
Raining mercy from the Father.
Your one sacrifice, giving us new life
Gained by your eternal offer
(though blood and water)
Who has a love like his?
What kind of man is this?
All was finished, all accomplished
So he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (Jn 19:30)
His obedience unto death was done (Ph 2:8)
And now our redemption was won.
Causing rocks to crumble, bringing the dead to life
The temple curtain torn in two (Mt 27:51).
The sun was darkened. God had died. (Mt 27:54)
All creation rebelled as the word made flesh left the world.
Your love, your life opening up the skies
Raining mercy from the Father
Your one sacrifice giving us new life…
Who has a love like this? What kind of man is this?
On the ground in the dust having fallen again
Poured out and crushed
From the ravages of sin
Why he didn’t die right then is a mystery
Why he got up again
To stumble through to the end is
Because of his love, because I was lost,
He’s come as the one to lead us.
When I go astray I won’t fall away
Because of the love of Jesus
There are times when I’m tired
And it’s more than I can bear
I am more like him the weaker that I am
How can a man endure in so much pain
Knowing for many it would only be in vain? It’s…
With only a broken heart to break his fall
Racked and torn
He stood up again to take on even more
At the end of the road at the foot of the cross
They divided your clothes by casting lots.
(Ps 22:18, Lk 32:34)
Wounds opened again, intense was the pain
Beyond imagination with no compassion
Even more humiliation was borne by you.
They have taken everything, hurling insults and then
Press on your head the crown of thorns again.
Now stripped before a crowd
Detached from any comfort
Your are shivering, still all giving
And receiving nothing in return.
Oh, forgive me and Lord have pity
We have all lost our way to the ways of the world
Take me, united with you make me
That I may make reparation and ease your heart.
Now who could describe and who can understand
Your willingness to die for these very men.
Oh, give me light to change my life
Oh, and help me be yours completely
And live only with love for you.
Oh, Lord, help me live with only love
For you, my one and only love
To live only with love for you
I have only love for you.
At the place called "The Skull,"
Just like a criminal,
With a thief on either side (Lk 23:33)
Thrown on a cross,
Brought to this moment by love with each nail
Piercing his hands (Jn 20:25, 27)
A heart like wax melting away (Ps 22:14)
A throat dry like baker's clay (Ps 22:15)
All for you and me.
Here is his love, come know what love is
There’s no greater love
Than to lay down one’s life. (Jn 15:13)
Come near to his love,
Shown right at this moment for
Here is his love, here is his love.
Is there a heart that can see
Such love and turn away, yet I too turn away.
Oh, to love with your love
And be able to say with you
Father forgive them
They know not what they do (Lk 23:34)
For the coredemtion of man
I too give all that I am. It’s not I who lives
But Christ who is in me… (Gal 2:20)
Love, He is offered
Perfect victim the Eternal Priest (Heb 5:10)
Love, And in his love
Spreading open his arms
to embrace every soul…
Watching you abou to die,
Not wanting to spare you the cross
Seeing Simon passing by,
They force him to pick it up.
Resisting, he obeys,
Unaware of who you are.
Will I react the same
When your will gets too hard? NO!
I will not refuse the cross, I accept it.
I will not say no to God, my Lord.
I want all you want for me
All the good, all the bad,
I accept my destiny.
You saw my cross before it came
And you chose it just for me.
Before all time you had seen
The wonders to my soul it would bring.
And as I walk each step
I will offer it to you.
I unite it to your death
And like Simon server you.
You died for love of me.
I’ll die for love of you.
Help me, Jesus, by your grace,
‘cause with your grace…
After all had finally gone and this nightmare barely done
Two of his disciples come with courage newly won. (Jn 19:40)
The body of your son your own flesh and blood was taken down.
In your arms our Lord is lain.
Pressed to a heart so filled with sorrow and such pain.
You hold him close and look above
O where is he whom you have loved? (Song 3:3)
O woman where has your beloved gone? (Song 6:1)
Our savior lying still in Mary’s arms.
He came to save a world in sin and yet his own denied him.
Good in everything he did, yet not allowed to live.
I’m sorry my sin caused you so much pain and loss.
Pray for me. 'Cause...
From a throne up above leaving kingdom and crown
To a world in need below
He came as a servant and won renown
As a man of sorrow and woe.
Joseph offered his grave. I too offer a place.
I open my heart to you.
Drive out the darkness with your light.
Make me worthy to receive you.
In a borrowed tomb he is laid to rest
With so few left to mourn
Has there ever been one who loved so much
And loved so little in return.
